Hello, this is William. I make cartoons on the internet called Willytoons. I make cartoons about all kinds of things but one of my favorites are the ones I make about Baby Sonic. Here is one of my favorites:
So maybe you might want to know, how did I do that? I’ll let you know!
First, it starts with an idea. Baby Sonic is about a baby that looks like Sonic, but what will this baby do? A baby has to do baby things!
I have a friend that goes by the internet name of Nightmare, who also happens to be a mother; she has a toddler. (Follow her on Twitch!) This toddler is what one would call “un travieso”, which means he is mischievous. He likes to throw stuff. One day, Nightmare told this story where he threw a toy right at her.

And I thought, that is a funny thing for a toddler to do. (Sorry.)
So then, let’s make a Baby Sonic cartoon! First, I need sounds.
For this, I enlisted the help of another friend, Tizzy! (Follow him on Twitch too!) He is the voice of Baby Sonic’s babysitter, the Sheep. We need to have him and the baby doing something, so I made them play peekabo!
I recorded Tizzy voicing the babysitter playing “peekaboo”, and because the baby was going to throw something, I then recorded him making lots of noises of pain.
Sorry.
Then it’s time for the main part, animating! It is a multi step process.
First, I do an animatic, which is a very simple version of the cartoon, using only stick figures. I do this so that I can see if the joke actually works before I commit to finishing the video. If the joke doesn’t work, then I would to back to the drawing board.
For this one though, it made me laugh, so I decided to commit to it.
After this comes drawing. Lots and lots of drawing. I draw over my animatic so that I can keep the pacing and format of the joke, so that it doesn’t get lost in translation to the full detail animation.
Then I add color and then I draw the background. If I have more free time, I even add some simple shading by using two different shades of the same color and adding them to the outer edges, depending on where I think the light source should be. Honestly sometimes I just leave the cartoons without shading because I only have a short amount of free time to make a cartoon, and I would prefer to get it out to the world than keep working on it for a few more hours or days.
So now that it’s done, where would I put it out? The reason I make cartoons is because I want others to enjoy them. Right now, the main places I think the cartoons can have people enjoy them are Youtube, Instagram and Tiktok. However, each place is very different. Tiktok and Instagram are primarily vertical video, while Youtube is primarily widescreen. So do I make these videos in widescreen or vertical video?
The answer is, why not both?

I make my cartoons at a square aspect ratio. In the middle, I made a safe area that would be the place where no matter if its widescreen or vertical, everything inside the square will be on the screen. Half of the four corners will be cut depending on the aspect ratio of the site. So on a vertical video platform, you get to see more of the floor and ceiling, while on a widescreen platform, you get to see some more toys and furniture; but you will never miss the Sheep and Baby Sonic.
I could not have done this cartoon without the help of my friends. Animation is a collaborative process. I hope you enjoyed this video,if you want to see my cartoons, please follow and subscribe to Willytoons on Youtube or Instagram or Tiktok! Also, remember to follow Nightmare and TizzyLento on Twitch, because they help me out! Goodbye!
