On making videos about trains running over videogame characters….

As a kid I did a cartoon called “Mario vs The TRAIN!!!” that ended up becoming fairly popular on Youtube.

I went on to do another one featuring Sonic, which became even more popular.

Pretty soon, I ended up doing a whole bunch of animated cartoons based on videogames, but I wanted to go ahead and do another train video, this time with characters from Minecraft and Roblox.

I was a huge fan of Roblox back in the late 2000s, and its insane how popular it has recently become. I am also a fan of Minecraft, even ran real life summer camps using Minecraft as part of my job.

For a new train video, I wanted to follow the same formula; using John Williams “Cowboys” theme to signify the train advancing, cutting with the character being tied to a rope.

Really, the way I draw them, they could easily just get up and walk away; but I think the visual looks nice and tells the story well.

I like having a surprise ending to these: for the Mario one, Luigi ended up saving the day, and the Sonic one, well, he didn’t even want to save the day at all. For this one, being Minecraft themed, I think it was the opportunity to use the creeper to change the dynamic a bit.

For my other cartoons I have gone on to make the cartoons using Clip Studio Paint; but because the repetitive nature of these train cartoons and it being synced with music, I decided to do it like I did the older cartoons; drawing individual poses and laying them out on the Vegas Pro timeline.

I have other cartoons and a whole short film currently in production, and they are more intricate and time consuming than this one, so it was nice to get a simple cartoon out while the others take their time.

Please let me know what you think of it!
